Benfica have spoken and they have made their position clear. In a brief statement, the Portuguese side have denied that they are in talks to sign Diego Costa. The Spanish striker is still without a club since he left Atletico Madrid.
Just hours before, there was talk of a pre-agreement between former Atletico Madrid player Diego Costa and Benfica. A day afterwards, the Portuguese club have come out to deny the news.
Benfica released a very brief statement on their club website which said the following: “Benfica deny that there are negotiations in progress to try and sign striker Diego Costa. The club reiterates that, until the end of the season, the club’s focus is only on winning the last ten matches of the league season and the Portuguese Cup final.
That is what Benfica said in response to a rumour which was published by ‘Mundo Deportivo’ this Wednesday which said that, thanks to Jorge Mendes, the 32 year-old player would move to the Portuguese outfit in the summer.
The cited media outlet even ended up putting a figure on his transfer, an amount which was three million euros for the signing plus another three million for each season he signs for.
